The 2026 Ukrainian 5 UAH commemorative coin “Ukrainian Folk Tales. Kyrylo Kozhumiaka” celebrates one of the best-known heroes of Ukrainian folklore. Issued by the National Bank of Ukraine on 29 June 2026, the coin is struck in German silver and features a Special Uncirculated finish.

The folk tale tells the story of Kyrylo the Tanner, a craftsman whose extraordinary strength enables him to defeat a dragon, rescue a princess and free a city from captivity. The dragon represents evil, while Kyrylo’s victory symbolises courage, determination and justice.

The coin’s design illustrates key scenes from the story. The obverse depicts Kyrylo working as a tanner, children asking him for help, and the princess held captive by the dragon. These scenes are separated by stylised hemp ropes. The reverse shows the dramatic battle between Kyrylo and the dragon, bringing the traditional Ukrainian fairy tale to life through detailed narrative imagery.
