St. Nicholas (Nicholas the Wonderworker) - one of the most revered saints of the church - a miracle worker, patron saint of the poor, protector of children, and patron saint of travelers.  Nicholas was a Roman Christian priest of Greek descent, bishop of Myra, a saint.  His icons are placed on almost every iconostasis and are considered the most numerous after the icons of the Mother of God.  According to the custom common in many European countries, brings gifts to children on St. Nicholas Day.
